MK Dons SET plan to inspire a generation through recreational football opportunities for all women and girls in Milton Keynes. The tournament has seen record breaking attendances, which hasn’t just inspired the next generation but the current one too.
As part of the legacy of the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022, MK Dons SET have played a pivotal role in developing opportunities for diverse groups of women to play football in the city. Using football as a tool to inspire positive change, the programmes aim to break down barriers and change perceptions, creating a legacy to show that football is for everyone regardless of gender or background.
Working with several partners, MK Dons SET are providing women the opportunity to play recreational football. Sessions focus on fun, friends and fitness throughout a variety of programmes for all women to get involved; whether you have never kicked a ball before, or you’d like to pick it up again.
The Inspired by EURO 2022 Legacy programmes have already seen success for the people and communities of Milton Keynes. Touchline Mums participant, Ashleigh, has been playing since 2021 and has not looked back “Joining Touchline Mums has been massive for me as social events and new situations can trigger my anxiety. I’ve been able to fall back in love with the game again.”
The sessions aren’t just fun and friendly, they help those get fit and healthy too, as Ashleigh explained “My fitness levels improved each week which makes me want to pick up my boots properly again and getting back on the pitch competitively”
There’s a variety of programmes for those of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities to get in to football and there’s plenty to choose from. Programmes available:
